Top 5-Sterne Plattenspieler: Sony PS-X 7 mit Carbonarm. Quartz DirectDrive & frischer Service. SME Anschluß, Automatik. Top Zustand, ohne Haube, aber mit den Scharnieren. Es ist ein neues Audio Technica AT-3600 mit passendem Headshell montiert. 

• Anno 1978, the PS-X 7 was the largest fully automatic turntable at Sony, next to the large Sony PS-X 9, which was also offered as a studio turntable.
• The chassis was made of the low-resonance SMBC material in (plain) grey. This is an extremely hard mixture of PVC, aluminum, and yet another material that Sony is silent about. It is harder than some metals.

Even top-class turntables had to give in, some vinyl and audio freaks claimed that the right-angled deflections of the record were not playable, but the Sony disproved this ;-)). The Grace F-8L Lumitrace was a legendary, high-compliance moving magnet (MM) cartridge known for its exceptional detail and musicality, designed for very low mass tonearms. I have found the Sony as an excellent overall TT with accurate setup rendering super results.”

“I was given this turntable by a fellow I worked for one summer. It came through his Uncle who bought it new in the 1970's, and I don't think it saw much use as it was in mint condition when I acquired it. This Sony competes quite nicely against the well respected Technics Sl-1200. It has an heavy and non-resonant plinth, heavy platter, excellent motor and equally excellent tonearm. It is a great performer!”

“I bought mine around about 5 years ago. I purchased a brand new Denon moving coil DL103 cartridge and use it with a Project phono amp. I have had a Technics SL1210, heard Linn Sondeck, and some other high end turntables besides. To me nothing beats this setup, the Linn may have been a tad smother, the Technics may have had a little more bass but the Sony conveys music and emotion in the most engaging way. Stability is rock solid and piano and vocal pieces shine when played on this machine. Even worn or scratched records sound cleaner and fresher. I imagine the PSX9 must be stunning but if you don't want to pay high four figure prices and can find one of these beauties, buy it without hesitation.”

“Gave it a 9/10 as nothing is perfect. Purchased new in 1977 and used until 1995 when it went to a friend who still uses. Only reason I gave it a 9 is that the auto-function plastic cam finally wore out and made it into a manual TT. If I had been smart enough to clean and re-lube the mechanism every ten years it would probably still be fine. Purchased with a Shure V15 Type III and upgraded to a V15VxMR. Wore out a couple of styli on both. When tested by Hirsch-Houck labs, was the quietest TT they had reviewed. Especially liked the carbon fiber TA.”
